Yes. I agree the current situation has completely changed our lifestyle. But I am a bit optimistic and we can lead a better life than a life we have lived before the pandemic. In this blog, however, I would like to provide a window of self-realization and what we can learn about our own nature and biodiversity from this pandemic.
But for now, here are a few pictures I would like the readers to consider:
While those might seem amusing to us, There is one question we must ask ourselves: Why have they come in now? Of course, some may say that, since the pollution is lower, therefore they’re touring the places where humans have once trodden. Whereas we are quarantined at home, we are not able to witness these sights. Most of us at this point would have thought at first that we’re having a vacation at home, but now as two months have passed, people are now very frustrated to stay at home and have a longing desire to step out of the house once and for all.
Keeping this in mind, we must ask ourselves: What would these animals feel if we keep them confined and keep destroying their habitat? The truth is that we have been doing since the human race has begun industrialization across the world. This instilled that fact in the animal kingdom that the Human race is the most powerful species on the planet. The animals, due to our harmful activities such as deforestation, etc, We have taken away their natural habitat where they used to thrive. And due to this, we might never get to see these majestic creatures ever again. Over the last 44 years, the World Wildlife Fund planet report has estimated that we have lost about 60% of our Wildlife which translates to 3 species becoming extinct every hour.
So the most important question everyone must ask themselves is “Why can’t we coexist with other species?”. This year, in fact, the WWF has set the theme for this environment day as “Celebrate Biodiversity”.
Currently, the lack of biodiversity has an adverse effect on our daily lives, if our ecosystem doesn't have enough resources to provide for all, these situations also result in political conflicts. Even the lack of biodiversity has led to the growth of harmful pathogens that cause infectious diseases. Given this crisis we are in, it's no surprise that the suppression of biodiversity has played a role for a reason where we are today.
But we can do something about it, as the saying goes “With great power comes great responsibility”. The animals cannot speak for themselves, we have to stand up and speak on their behalf. While raising awareness is part of the solution, we must educate ourselves and not fall in the trap of pseudoscience and misbeliefs.
Therefore, keeping this in mind we must celebrate the flora and fauna we’ve been offered and we have to save and preserve it because: if we don’t care about it, it just won’t care for us in turn.
